About Us: Our History
Upper Missouri Ministries is located on 203 acres on the shores of Springbrook Dam. The shore line surrounds most of the camp site which is on a peninsula nestled in the coulee bottom.
The camp was built in the early 1940's and inspired by dreamers Pastor Nelson and Pastor Norman as well as the work of many many volunteers. By 1945 congregations provided a sizeable sum to build the camp. St. James church from Springbrook was donated and moved to the campsite. Cabins, a chapel on the hill, the retreat center and bathrooms were added.
In 1980 the dam was breached and the water emptied, but this disaster was short-lived and by fall the dam was rebuilt. UMM is owned by 42 congregations of the ELCA in Northwest North Dakota and Eastern Montana.
UMM provides exciting year-round ministry opportunities for people of all ages including summer camps, creative worship events, training events, retreat facilities, youth & family programs and music ministry.
Upper Missouri Ministries is committed to spreading the love of Jesus Christ through fun filled, creative experiences in a safe and caring atmosphere. You are invited to be our guests for a wonderful time in a beautiful and peaceful prairie setting.
