This summer the 2017 Summer Team was invited at the close of each camp week to reflect on how God was at work at Camp UMM. This was a part of a new program, Summer Camp Missionaries started this summer. Each Camp Missionary was invited to find people to pray for & financially support them during their summer of ministry. We're so excited to read back & see just exactly how God moved in their lives and in the lives of campers all summer long. We're even more excited to share some of these stories with you!

Week 3: Joseph

This last week I was with seven awesome 3rd graders and one 5th grader. The week was filled with a lot of running around, games, laughter, tears, and some awesome praising of Jesus. The kids were soaking up each moment I talked about God. At times, I was even able to relate something simple like playing 4-square back to how Jesus gives us second chances. Each time something like this came up, they ate it up. One of this moments was probably my favorite from the week. I was explaining to one kid that was afraid of swimming how the life jacket will protect them and they should trust it, just like we trust Jesus. So, this got him to go out into the water a bit more and he had two friends encouraging him by going out with him. After they got quite a way out the kid started freaking out but one of the friends shouted, “remember, the life jacket is like Jesus!!” My heart melted upon hearing this because I knew that they were taking something away from that day and learning to glorify God in the different activities they do. One this I really strive for is that they will take something they learned home with them, and I know that these kids have that.

Week 2: Michelle

God worked a lot in my girls this week and I had many prayers be answered. I had a little fourth grade camper who was not very excited about the amount of worship or Bible study we do here at camp, so I prayed a lot to myself for her every day. By the middle of the week she was taking her Bible to dinner and she started reading it before bed every night. God is so amazing!

Week 2: Ashley

Hello there! This was my first week long on-site cabin of the summer, and man was it fun! On Sunday the Discovery 1 camp started, I had ten girls ages 9-11 in my cabin who stayed until Friday morning. We were the Owl cabin and spent the entire week “Hooting” and “Who-ing”.

A highlight for me this week was the Bible Studies every morning. The girls were very attentive, but more than that they asked great questions! It was so much fun doing my best at answering their questions and seeing their desire for a deeper relationship with God.

One of my favorite parts of this week was how excited the campers got about different activities and how they gave 110% to everything they did. An example was when one girl did not bring enough matching clean clothes for the last day. She was worried about what the other campers would think of her mismatching outfit, so I suggested I would wear mismatching clothes also if it would make her feel better. The other girls heard this and decided that they too would wear crazy outfits so she and I wouldn’t be the only ones. Before long every girl in the cabin was wearing the craziest outfit they owned, shorts over neon leggings, tank tops over t-shirts and even a few socks in their hair. I was cool to see how all the other girls were willing to look silly in order to make one girl feel confident and happy. God has given each of the girls a kind, loyal and fun personality and I loved getting to see it throughout this week.

This week I have started getting a cold, I would appreciate prayer for renewed health so I can be on my A-game for the campers this coming week. Thank you for all the prayer and support you have been giving me thus far. I cannot wait to update you on more amazing this God is doing in the lives of your youth!!

Upper Missouri Ministries is located on 203 acres on the shores of Springbrook Dam. The shore line surrounds most of the camp site, which is on a peninsula nestled in the coulee bottom.

This is a perfect setting for kids and families to experience the Love and Grace of Jesus through time in creation and community that allows faith in Christ Jesus to be sparked.

Children (of all ages) are in need of a place to slow down and reconnect with nature and other people. And we all need to reconnect with the Love and Grace of God found in Jesus. Time at Camp UMM provides experiences in services, worship, study, and quiet time. Campers return to their homes, families, and communities with faith in Christ Jesus that is sparked and with tools that will allow them to weather the storms of life.
